Your child’s first dental visit is usually short and involves very little treatment. We may ask you to sit in the dental chair and hold your child during the examination. You may also be asked to wait in the reception area during part of the visit so that a good working relationship can be established between your child, his or her dentist and our entire dental team.
During the appointment, we will gently examine your child’s teeth and gums. X-rays may be taken to reveal decay and evaluate the development of your child’s permanent teeth under the gums.
After cleaning your child’s teeth, we may apply topical fluoride to help protect against decay. We will also ensure that your child is receiving adequate fluoride at home. Most important, we will review with you how to clean and care for your child’s teeth. At the end of your child’s appointment they will be invited to select a prize from our toy chest as a reward for a successful dental visit.
Preventative Dental Care for Children
Woodburn Community Dental is focused on preventative dental care for your child. We use the latest in dental sealant technology to protect your child’s teeth. Dental sealants are plastics resins that are bonded to the chewing surfaces of the decay-prone back teeth. We also believe in regular use of at-home fluoride to strengthen your child’s developing teeth. These are just a few of the ways we will set the foundation for your child’s lifetime of good oral health.
